Description
Itinerary

After arriving in Rajkot, we welcome you and set off to Porbandar, which is a 4-hour drive, 180-km long journey. We’ll check into the hotel first to let you drop off your luggage. It is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. We’ll be graced by the first house of the social activist, Kirti Mandir, which is now open as a museum dedicated to the man, filled with the man’s presence. We’ll also explore the local area, starting from Drabargadh Palace, which is a royal palace that remains another focus of attraction in the old city. The building that was constructed in 1540 shows off a mix of Rajput and European architecture and design across the site. Not far from this old palace is the Huzoor Palace, a European-style palace that was finished in the early 20th century. The Nehru Planetarium is not to be missed, along with the Sudama Temple. Established in 1977, it is one of the two planetariums that were initiated by the Prime Minister thanks to Mahatma Gandhi’s push for education. We’ll return to the hotel at night after dinner and stay overnight in Porbandar.

After breakfast in Porbandar, we head for Junagarh. We check into the hotel when we arrive and rest for a bit. In the afternoon, we will visit Dattatreya Temple, where Lord Dattatreya is worshipped atop the peak of ancient Girnar hill. We can ride the Girnar Ropeway up the hill to visit the temple and enjoy the stunning panoramic sight of Girnar Hills. Then we’ll visit Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden, which is a zoo known for its purebred Asiatic lions’ exhibits, which is part of their captive breeding program for the critically endangered species. Not to be missed is also the Junagarh Fort before we have dinner and return to the hotel to rest.

From Junagarh, we head to Bhavnagar after you fill yourself with breakfast. We check into the hotel before visiting Gandhi Smriti, an institution built in memory of Mahatma Gandhi. The museum was also the very house where Mahatma Gandhi spent the last 144 days of his life and recalled the man’s collection of books in his library. It is also a gallery of pictures of the prolific writer Bapu’s Life. In the evening, we will visit Takhteshwar Temple, one of the oldest temples in Gujarat that was entirely built in marble. Perched atop the hillock, it overlooks the city of Bhavnagar under it. After dinner, we will take you back to the hotel and stay overnight in Bhavnagar.

After breakfast, we’ll check out and go to Ghogha Beach to take a relaxing walk on the shores. Then we head to Aksharwadi Temple, a popular place that’s become the symbol of the culture and spirituality of Bhavnagar, adorned with intricate carvings that were aimed to worship Lord Swaminarayan. We’ll also visit Victoria Park before leaving for Ahmedabad. Enroute, we’ll stop to visit Lothal, a site where the remains of the 4500-year-old Indus Valley Civilization could be found. The name Lothal means “mound of the dead,” referring to the rock mounds that store ancient artifacts and traces of life from 2500 BCE. In Ahmedabad, we’ll check in and take you for a leisure time exploring and shopping Lal Darwaja, a busy shopping center where hints of old architecture, such as the stone latticework windows and the Bhadra Fort, can be seen. The Law Garden Night Market is also a perfect spot to explore street food in Ahmedabad. After dinner, we’ll stay overnight at the hotel in Ahmedabad.

After breakfast, we explore the city and start from the Sabarmati Ashram and Kochrab Ashram. The Sabarmati Ashram was one of the houses Mahatma Gandhi spent his time in when he was not traveling. The Kochrab Ashram, built in 1915, was set up by Mahatma Gandhi, a place that witnesses many important moments of the Indian Independence movement. Then we move to Adalaj Stepwell, an octagonal-shaped sandstone with a prominent Solanki architectural style. The five-story deep structure brags strong pillars that date back to 1499 when it was used as a refuge for the people, where spiritual sustenance was provided along with water. Sarkhej Roja is a mosque, tomb, and palace complex that brags some of the most unique Indo-Saracenic architectures, also known as the Acropolis of Ahmedabad. After the complex, we head to the Calico Museum of Textiles, which houses an impressive collection of the finest textile handicrafts that date back to five centuries ago. In the evening, we’ll visit the Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar, a large Hindu temple complex and campus, where visitors can marvel at the intricately carved stone structure and architecture that were the result of hard work by 900 artisans. Before returning to the hotel, you don’t want to miss the Laser Show. We’ll enjoy dinner at the hotel and spend overnight in Ahmedabad.

After breakfast, we’ll leave you on your own until the time for your departure arrives. We’ll take you to the airport or railway station and see you off as you say your goodbye to Gujarat and go back home.
